Our client, a consumer food products company, is seeking an Assistant Human Resources Director (AHRD) for one of their food manufacturing facilities. The Assistant HR Director will be based at their food manufacturing plant in Santa Barbara, CA, and will lead the strategy and implementation of human resources policies, procedures and programs for the site . This position will report to the Director of HR and will require fluency in both English and Spanish.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Director of HR in developing/ modifying employment policies.
- Provide guidance and support to ensure consistency of policy application across the business.
- Coach managers and employees on routine to complex employee relations issues, assist with policy interpretation, and provide guidance to prevent and/or address conflict resolution.
- Coach and advise leadership on complex and non-routine performance management.
- Guide, direct and conduct investigations of claims of harassment, discrimination, workplace violence and other issues, determine appropriate action, and document in final reports.
- Drive positive cultural activities and programs. Promote initiatives aligning with a vibrant and inclusive workplace culture.
- Lead and communicate change management initiatives relating to workforce and/or employee initiatives.
- Develop and facilitate HR training for managers relating to employee skills and competencies, performance management, respectful workplace, and employee training and onboarding.
- Develop tools and templates for managers to ensure consistency of documentation, and train managers on the use of these tools.
- Help develop and manage employee compensation programs, including wage structures, promotions, and merit and/or performance adjustment processes.
- Participate in organizational staffing and succession management initiatives.
- Act as backup to the HR Manager on payroll and the development of procedures and recommendations of new HRIS technologies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in human resources, business, or organizational behavior or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of HR Generalist experience in a food manufacturing environment, supporting a headcount of at least 100 employees.
- 5+ years of management or supervisory experience.
- Experience with MS Office and proprietary information systems is required.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data to build a business case.
- Solid knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws and procedures.
- Expert knowledge of wage and hour laws.
- Expert knowledge of employee relations procedures and applicable law.
